Long-wavelength SeTau Series: Squaraine-Rotaxanes

The long-wavelength SeTau dye series is a new, next generation class of dyes based on Squaraine-rotaxanes that combines extremely high quantum yields in water (up to 60%) and high extinction coefficients in the order of 150 - 365,000 M-1. cm-1. These dyes were developed by SETA BioMedicals in order to overcome some of the shortcomings of conventional dyes such as low sensitivity, low stability against oxygen species and low photostability. SeTau dyes are available in reactive forms with carboxy, NHS ester and maleimide functionalities but also as hydrophobic probes for imaging.

The longer lifetimes of squaraine rotaxane in the order of 2 - 4 ns compared to conventional cyanine based NIR labels (τ = 0.5 – 1.5 ns) make them in particular suitable as labels for use in fluorescence polarization immunoassays.
